Cooking with David Austin Roses

Rosewater has always been famous– both for its beautiful fragrance, its role in both skincare and medicinal products, and even in cooking! The luxurious ingredient with that iconic, alluring scent has a whole garden of organically derived benefits.

But did you know you can make this incredibly nourishing botanical in your own kitchen? Join Danielle Fischer and her special guest, rose-expert Rebecca Koraytum of David Austin Roses, as they show us how shockingly simple and fun creating homemade rosewater truly is in Cooking with David Austin Roses. As daunting as it might seem, with Danielle and Rebecca’s guidance, making your own rosewater will be a floral-scented breeze– and the perfect way to spend a relaxing but productive afternoon. With only two ingredients and just a couple easy steps, you’ll be on your way to freshly brewed rosewater of your own in no time.

Danielle and Rebecca use Lady Emma Hamilton roses, which are a particular type of David Austin’s English Roses with a beautiful sunset and tangerine coloring and strong scent– perfect for creating rosewater! Rebecca Koraytum provides plenty of interesting background on not only the Lady Emma Hamilton roses, but the origins of David Austin’s roses in general. It’s incredible to learn about how these household name roses are grown and harvested in England, but travel overseas to find homes and flourish in gardens worldwide! She even shares some of the fun history behind the names of each of the David Austin roses– even our Lady Emma Hamilton roses that are featured throughout the video!

Even for those who may not have any David Austin roses growing in their own gardens, Rebecca and Danielle discuss how this project can be done with any edible roses you have available, or visit Magnolia’s Yarden to pick some out. The most important factor is finding the rose with the scent that you find the most alluring. Rebecca shares how roses can fit into various different fragrance profiles, then goes on to provide plenty of examples of each scent! If you have a favorite fragrance and want to select the perfect rose for your rosewater, this segment is a great opportunity to find the right match.

Danielle and Rebecca also provide some essential tips to making sure your roses stay happy, healthy, and positively thriving in your garden at home, as well as how and when to harvest them for the peak levels of fragrantness. From two floral experts, these tips are simply too great to miss!

By the end of the episode, you’ll have learned plenty about roses and how to make rosewater– so what’s next? To answer that question, you’ll have to stay tuned to the end of the video to see Danielle’s sweet surprise for a super creative use for rosewater!
